At this point, many western artists draw Chris as a big muscular hunk due to RE5 (and later games) being popular in the west, and having buff action Chris as his most well-known design. Sometimes you still see traces of Bishie Chris with a smooth face and tiny chin in Asian uke-Chris fanart.
Bishie Chris goes well with Val Kilmer Kissy Lips Wesker! I feel like the devs were inspired by Maverick and Iceman from Top Gun for their designs in Code Veronica. Especially with Chris wearing a flight jumpsuit and actually getting to fly a plane. So that means Tom Cruise is a pretty boy?! Yeah, that makes sense for the 80’s and 90’s. Not quite the Leonardo Di Caprio uber-twink that Steve and Leon were meant to be. I think Chris’s design is meant to hit another demographic of fans - women rather than teen girls! And also men who are into like, gay military fanservice.
This is the last time that the 80’s/90’s action movie influence is obvious in the visuals of Chris’s design. While Wesker always carries the essence of Val Kilmer kissy lips and T-1000 cuntiness, Chris will lose his Tom Cruise looks, spiky hair and “rockstar” basis to the 2000’s bend towards military dead-wife manpain. |  |
